Description

Birdathon for the Classroom!

Birdathon for the classroom is an opportunity for your students to discover a new passion and learn more about environmental conservation. Birds connect kids to the natural world and can get your students outside, encourage environmental stewardship, and deepen personal development.

Three Ways to Participate:

Bird Outside the Classroom!

Students love the opportunity learn outdoors! Take a walk around your campus with your students and look for birds. Collect data about size, color, shape and behavior. Use Merlin Bird ID, field guides or other Birdathon resources to help with identification. Don’t see many birds? Discuss why not with your students!

Bird in Backyards, Neighborhoods, and Parks!

Get your kiddos excited to go home and look for birds in their backyards, balconies, streets and parks. Have them collect data and report back to the class. Write in species names on your class poster and compare data between students.

Bird Inside the Classroom With Your Birdathon Educator Toolkit!

Dive into the resources Houston Audubon has prepared to get your students excited about bird conservation and environmental stewardship. Each toolkit contains an official Birdathon Log where students can keep track of all the species they identify. Put up one of our live bird-cam feeds on your smart-board or computer and kids can bird right from their seats.

Also in the toolkit are Audubon Adventure student magazines, lessons and activities. Printable birding notebooks, field guides, and other fun, informational items will be at your fingertips!

Have fun, and happy birding!
