Birds of Moody Gardens - Houston Bird Week

09/22/2021 08:30 AM - 12:00 PM CT

Location

Moody Gardens

Description

Join us on a walk around Moody Gardens Property, one of the secret birding spots on Galveston Island! Nestled on Offats Bayou with native marsh to the West, interspersed oak motts and tropical plantings around property, the diversity can be surprising. Boasting an observed species list of 273 birds, often 40-70 species can be seen on a walk around property, depending on the time of year. We even have a small population of black rail out in the marsh. The walk will include a tour of property, as well as a visit into the canopy of the Rainforest Pyramid and finally a trip to the Penguin Exhibit to experience the diversity that Moody Gardens has to offer. The walk will be led by Greg Whittaker, Moody Gardens General Curator and Houston Audubon Board President, and Clayton Leopold, Senior Biologist in the Rainforest Pyramid and YPAC member.
