Description

Birds are an excellent entryway to exploring nature within our city and to recognizing the importance of urban habitat conservation. Our location along the Central Flyway provides an opportunity to re-envision our backyards, parks, and public spaces with an understanding of the specific needs of resident and migrating birds. Through the Bird-Friendly Communities program, Houston Audubon leads efforts to preserve urban wild spaces and to encourage all Houstonians to experience the satisfaction that comes from making room for birds and other wildlife.

Join Houston Audubon’s Bird-Friendly Communities Program Manager, Anna Vallery, to learn how YOU can be more bird-friendly at home. She'll give you tips and tricks on everything from planting with native plants, feeding birds, preventing threats to birds and how to get started on your birding journey! Then, Houston Audubon Young Professionals Advisory member, Chris Bick, will share how he used the BFC steps to welcome an amazing diversity of birds and wildlife into his own urban backyard - from zero to over 178 species, including 8 species of hummingbird!
