Description

Join the Willow Waterhole bird survey during Houston Bird Week and become a community scientist! The Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve is a retention pond project of the Harris County Flood Control District. Consisting of six ponds and spanning 290 acres, the greenspace is an excellent birding area within the City of Houston. The survey was started in 2007 and is held the third Saturday of each month (except for December). The group can expect to identify anywhere from 30 to over 50 bird species during the two-hour count (over 210 species have been reported at Willow Waterhole). The survey is led by Mary Ann Beauchemin, Senior Naturalist at the Nature Discovery Center, and co-leaders Mark Meyer and Michael Honel.
