Come join us for the Big Sit at the Rice Owl Deck. April 22, Earth Day (!), from dawn to dusk. We are in the process of restoring the land, and some of the fruits of our labor are finally showing. Our goal is to see how many birds we can tally from one spot at Rice, and in the process, bring awareness to birds through Rice and Houston Audubon.
All are welcome to come. We will have parking passes for everyone. Binoculars and scopes for you to try out. And hopefully lots of migrants! The only rules are that we have to count birds from a confined area, the Owl Deck. However, the Owl Deck provides a great vantage point for spotting birds and who knows what rarities might show up!
Birdathon is Houston Audubon’s signature spring fundraising event—a "walk-a-thon" for birders. Participants form teams to identify as many bird species as possible within a 24-hour period between April 11 and May 11. It is a high-energy celebration of spring migration that combines community science with a mission to raise $75,000 for local conservation.
