The Humming Birders

Our Birdathon team — Twila and Phil Queller, Cin-Ty Lee, Beverly Strassmann, and Diana Strassmann — are teaming up to support Houston Audubon. Houston Audubon provides critical sanctuary and support to migratory birds and advocates for their essential needs, which they are unable to voice themselves. Almost a third of birds coming to the US migrate through Texas — over two billion. After long flights over oceans, tired migrants depend on critical habitats in Texas for rest and food before they journey further to breeding grounds elsewhere in the US and Canada. The habitats provided and sustained by Houston Audubon provide needed safe havens for millions of North American birds.

Birdathon is Houston Audubon’s signature spring fundraising event—a "walk-a-thon" for birders. Participants form teams to identify as many bird species as possible within a 24-hour period between April 11 and May 11. It is a high-energy celebration of spring migration that combines community science with a mission to raise $75,000 for local conservation.
