Houston Audubon offers over 20 free bird walks each month. Participating is a great way to start birding. They maintain 17 nature sancturaies. One of the most popular is Smith Oaks on High Island. Maintaining these sanctuaries is crucial because birds are an essential part of our ecosystem. They play a vital role in pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control, which helps to maintain a healthy environment. These sanctuaries provide a safe haven for birds to breed, nest, and feed. Houston Audubon provides opportunities for bird watching, and educates people about the importance of conserving natural habitats. By maintaining bird sanctuaries, we can increase their chances of survival.
Birdathon is Houston Audubon's community fundraiser where teams of all skill levels are encouraged to get out in nature and count birds while enjoying nature and supporting Houston Audubon's work in the protection of birds through habitat restoration, surveying and monitoring, nature education, supporting bird-friendly communities, and advocacy efforts.
Please consider donating! Teams will have 24 hours to complete their counts!
