The clock is ticking! 

After years of analysis, in 2019 the Cornell Lab of Ornithology released this stunning finding about birds in North America: “Since 1970, on balance, many more birds have died than have survived, resulting in 2.9 billion fewer breeding birds today.”

That's nearly 3 BILLION birds lost in the past 50 years. Think about that for a moment. While there are a handful of success stories, many species continue to see significant drops in their population primarily due to habitat destruction. For example, the beloved Eastern Meadowlark, a staple of American grasslands, has experienced a whopping 80% population decline since 1970.

Fortunately, we have the ability to render aid! Plus, by advancing the conservation of birds, we create a healthier natural environment overall and a more beautiful place for us humans to live. What's not to love?!

On Tuesday, April 24th, 2023, as part of Houston Audubon’s Birdathon, the dynamic duo of Georgia and Stu will zoom around the Upper Texas Coast to raise funds and awareness for Houston Audubon.

Known as Better Late than Feathers, they will search far and wide, narrating the journey as they go.

Birdathon is Houston Audubon's community fundraiser where teams of all skill levels are encouraged to get out in nature and count birds while enjoying nature and supporting Houston Audubon's work in the protection of birds through habitat restoration, surveying and monitoring, nature education, supporting bird-friendly communities, and advocacy efforts.
